Daniel Williams - Owner / Manager DW Joinery
My six years as a student in St. Colman’s High & Sixth Form College enabled me to own my own Joinery
business from the age of 28. I chose to attend the school as all my family members were past students.
St. Colman’s was like one big family, instilling a sense of community in me from an early age and
encouraging me to pursue my career working with members of the public.
Academic subjects weren’t my strong point, although I excelled in practical subjects and knew this was the
route I wanted to follow once leaving school. The teaching staff encouraged and supported me along this
journey. I stayed on for lower sixth and completed a Construction course, teaching me the importance of
trade skills and reinforcing these with the theory. Looking back on my time I have lots of fond memories,
some including trips to Outdoor Education Centres and Football matches. I made friends for life and even
work with some of them today. The Teacher’s provided practical and emotional support, motivating me to
get to where I am, with a successful business. I am eternally grateful for them, and we still keep in contact!
Rory Mason - P7 Teacher St. Macartan’s Primary School, Loughinisland
Reflecting on my time at St Colman’s fills me with immense pride and appreciation for the time I had in
school. The school community was brilliant in making me feel comfortable and valued from day one. The
teachers were incredibly supportive, consistently wanting the best for me and guiding me step by step
throughout my journey, helping with the up and downs of school life. The nurturing environment made it
clear that this was the best place for me to achieve the results I aspired to.
The encouragement and praise from my teachers was unwavering; I always knew they had my best
interests at heart. I cherished every minute spent at St Colman’s and created brilliant friendships and made
even better memories that will last a lifetime. I can honestly say that my time in school and the teachers that
I had shaped me into the teacher I am today.
Now, as I stand before my own class, I strive to provide the children with the same positive experience I had
in school. I aim to create an environment where they feel supported, inspired and excited to learn, just as I
felt during my 7 years at St Colman’s.
