LITERACY
We enthusiastically prioritise all areas of literacy and interweave its core objectives throughout our curriculum planning. We believe strong
literacy skills and abilities to be the foundation of not only academic success but the cornerstone of overall development and wellbeing.
Our recent investment with the online learning platform, Bedrock supports our pupils in improving their literacy skills regardless of their level
and ability. The programme begins with diagnostic testing and generates activities based on each pupil individually. This programme gives our
Year 8 and 9 pupils the opportunity to devote daily energies and efforts to improving their vocabulary and grammar skill set. Such software is
accessible via pupil iPads whilst their performance is tracked, monitored and rewarded. Parents are given individual login instructions to this
platform and have the opportunity to monitor, support and respond to their child’s progress. We have established and foster a reading culture
throughout our school community and promote the emotional benefits of reading for pleasure. We encourage pupils to engage with their
preferred reading material as often as possible and have recently created a number of reading areas throughout our school building. We support
and encourage all members of our school community to become life long readers and encourage such a devotion at home.
Good readers are good writers, good writers are good listeners and good listeners are great learners.
